How is data saved to the server on the networked version of Special EdNet Pro?
Data is first cached to the local computer and then after certain events the data is flushed from the local computer and the data is written to the server.  Some events that initiate a writing to the server include changing students, changing layouts, creating new IEPs. closing the program or exiting all data fields.  If a user is working in the same section of the IEP or MFE and something happens that disconnects them from the server, data could be lost if none of the events that trigger a save to the server have occurred.  The best way to prevent this is to simply click on the background of the program with the mouse.  This action exits all data fields which will initiate a save to the server.  Another option is to use the Save to Server option found under File on the menubar.  Ctrl + 3 (Windows) or Cmd + 3  (Mac)  in the IEP or ETR program also initiates this option.  Doing this assures that the data is being written to the server.

What can be done when there are frequent disconnect problems?
When I've seen this problem is usually is related to something on the network disconnecting the users from the server.  Filemaker need to be continually connected to the server.  Any interruption on the network will disconnect the user.  Filemaker is not like a web browsers.  Here is a list of things to check or consider is users being disconnected.
-Stop the Filemaker Service and restart the server (doing this solves a lot of times)
-Check for fault wiring or bad hardware
-Is there a pattern to the disconnects (time or location)
-Check for a faulty NIC card
-Ports on hubs should not be set to auto-detect or autosense
-FM server CPU should have a fixed IP address
-Check the event log on the server to see if an event is causing the disconnects
-Check the connection speed and reliability. Use a network tool from a remote location to ping the server and check for data/packet loss
-If your machine is behind a router and you are using internal (fake) IP addresses on your network, be sure that you have port forwarding from the router to your target machine configured properly (e.g. UDP 5003 to 192.168.x.x)t

Why are goals and objectives missing from the progress report?
It sounds like the progress report was created before the IEP was finished.  When you generate a progress report, the goals and objectives that are in the iep will  transfer to the progress report. If you add new goals/objectives or modify an existing goal/objective to the iep, the changes will not transfer to the progress report. You can delete the progress report and regenerate it or add a new goal/objective to the existing progress report. To delete a progress report, click on the red X button . To add to an existing progress report, click on the Add button.

The IEP or ETR standalone programs indicate that a file is damaged. How do I fix this?
Power failures, hardware problems, improperly quitting a program, and other factors
can damage a program file. The program will tell you if you have a damaged file. Once you know which file is damaged, you can recover it. To recover a damaged file on a Macintosh, hold down the Option-Command (apple key) while double clicking the start up application. On Windows, hold down the Ctrl+Shift while double clicking the start up application. Hold the keys down until you see the Recover File dialog box. Select the damaged file and click open.

What is the best way to work on IEP/ETR at home and school with the standalone version of the program?
The best way is to use a USB flash drive. The whole Practical Solutions folder can be copied to the USB flash drive. The program can be launched from the flash drive on another computer.
